How RF skin tightening works
As skin ages, collagen and elastic fibres in the dermis thin out and loosen, so the skin starts to sag and crease. Radiofrequency (RF) energy, used in what is sometimes called a radiofrequency facial, warms the dermis to a controlled temperature. The heat makes existing collagen contract and triggers the skin’s repair response, which builds new collagen over the following months.
During a session
Radiofrequency warms the collagen layer from within. Existing fibres contract a little, which is why some people see a subtle firming the same day.
Over the next 2–3 months
The skin builds new collagen in response to the controlled heat, so firmness keeps improving after the course ends.
At OrnaSkin, RF tightening is done on the EndyMed PURE, with its face-tightening probe for the cheeks, chin and neck. Its 3DEEP technology uses several RF sources whose timing is coordinated, so the energy concentrates in the dermis while less of it flows across the surface. That keeps the treatment comfortable and suitable for all skin tones. Our tightening courses can be combined with a peel or other treatments for skin quality, as planned at your consultation.
The same platform also has the Intensif probe for microneedling radiofrequency (MNRF), which we use for acne scars.

- Microneedling RF (used for acne scars): fine insulated needles enter the skin.
- Radiofrequency heat is released at their tips, in the dermis.
- The skin remodels collagen there, with little effect on the surface.
Microneedling RF uses the EndyMed PURE’s Intensif probe; RF skin tightening uses the face-tightening probe, without needles.
What it can help with
- Early sagging along the jawline, cheeks and under the chin.
- Fine lines and crêpey skin, including around the eyes and on the neck.
- Dull skin and uneven texture, with a firmer, smoother look.
- Loose skin on the body, such as the arms or abdomen after weight loss, as part of a plan.
For deeper lifting, HIFU may suit better; for hydration and fine crêpiness, skin boosters can be combined.
What results to expect
After each session
Skin looks slightly firmer and fresher; mild warmth or pinkness settles within hours.
Mid-course
Texture smoother; jawline and fine lines start to look crisper.
2–3 months after
New collagen gives the main firming effect.
Maintenance
A top-up session every few months helps keep the result as skin keeps ageing.
Results are gradual and natural-looking, and vary with age, skin quality, sun exposure and smoking.
Who it suits
Adults, usually from their late twenties onwards, with early to moderate laxity, fine lines or dull, crêpey skin who want a gradual, natural improvement without downtime. It is also a good maintenance treatment after HIFU or other procedures.
It is not used during pregnancy, in people with a pacemaker or implanted electronic device, over metal implants in the area, or on infected or inflamed skin. Tell us about recent fillers, threads, or any skin conditions.
Before, during and after
Before
Come with clean skin and no make-up if you can. Remove jewellery from the area. No special preparation is usually needed.
During
A conductive gel is applied and the handpiece is moved over the skin in slow passes. You feel gentle, spreading warmth that builds to a comfortable heat; the settings are adjusted to your comfort. A face session takes about 30–45 minutes.
After
The skin may look pink and feel warm for an hour or two. You can go back to work, wear make-up and continue your usual routine the same day. Use sunscreen and a good moisturiser.
Risks and how we minimise them
RF tightening has a low risk of side effects. Temporary redness, warmth and mild swelling are common. Rarely, too much heat in one spot can cause a blister, a small burn or temporary darkening. We reduce these by checking your comfort and skin response throughout, keeping the handpiece moving, and adjusting settings to your skin.
