What exosome therapy is
Cells talk to each other by releasing exosomes: tiny particles, around a thousand times smaller than the width of a hair, that carry proteins and genetic signals from one cell to another. In the skin, these signals help control inflammation, healing, collagen production and pigment.
Exosome products for skin contain purified exosomes, without any living cells. On their own, applied to intact skin, they barely get past the surface. That is why they are applied straight after a procedure that opens tiny channels in the skin, such as microneedling, a fractional laser or laser toning, so they can reach the layers where they work.
Open tiny channels
Microneedling or a gentle laser makes thousands of tiny, controlled channels in the skin, which close within hours.
Apply exosomes
The exosome solution is applied straight away, so the particles can travel through the channels into deeper skin.
Cells get the message
Exosomes carry proteins and genetic signals that can calm inflammation and support repair, collagen and a more even tone.
At OrnaSkin, exosomes are offered on their own as a course and as laser toning with exosomes for pigmentation and glow (what is sometimes sold elsewhere as an “exosome facial”). For exosome sessions, the skin is prepared with gentle microneedling before the exosomes are applied. We use exosome products from established manufacturers, and the product used is recorded in your file.

- Microneedling or a laser opens tiny channels in the skin.
- Exosomes applied straight after can travel down the channels.
- They carry signals that help control healing, collagen and pigment.
What it can help with
- Dull, tired or stressed skin, for a calmer, more even glow.
- Pigmentation and melasma, alongside laser toning and a pigmentation plan.
- Recovery after laser or microneedling, which may settle faster.
- Acne marks and texture: exosome treatment for acne scars is an add-on to acne scar treatment, not a stand-alone fix.
- Thinning hair, as part of hair fall treatment.
An honest word on the evidence
Exosomes are one of the newest tools in skincare. Laboratory research is extensive, and early clinical studies, such as a split-face trial in acne scars, suggest that adding exosomes after laser can reduce redness and improve results. But the studies are still small, products vary between manufacturers, and long-term data are limited. No exosome product is approved as a medicine for injection, and we don’t use them that way.
So we treat exosomes as a supporting treatment: added to proven treatments where they are likely to help, not sold as a cure on their own.
What results to expect
Same day
Mild redness from the microneedling or laser, settling within hours to a day.
First weeks
Skin often looks calmer and more radiant.
Through the course
Tone and texture improve gradually alongside the main treatment.
Maintenance
Occasional sessions, with daily sunscreen, help keep the result.
Results are gradual and vary with your skin, the main treatment it is combined with and how well the skin is protected from the sun.
Who it suits
Adults who want better skin quality and glow, people with pigmentation or acne marks who are already having laser toning or scar treatment, and people who want to recover faster after procedures. It suits all skin tones.
It is avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding (there are no safety data), on active infection, cold sores or eczema in the area, and in people with active cancer. Tell us about your medicines, any recent treatments on your face and allergies.
Before, during and after
Before
The dermatologist checks your skin and decides whether exosomes add value to your plan. Avoid retinoids, exfoliating acids and waxing on the area for a few days before, and come without make-up if you can.
During
The skin is cleansed and, if needed, a numbing cream applied. Microneedling or the laser is done first, and the exosome solution is applied and worked into the skin straight afterwards. A soothing mask or serum may finish the session.
After
- Expect redness and warmth for a few hours, sometimes until the next day.
- Don’t wash the face or apply make-up for the time advised, usually several hours.
- Use a gentle cleanser, moisturiser and sunscreen; avoid acids, retinoids, saunas and heavy exercise for a couple of days.
Risks and how we minimise them
Exosomes applied after a skin procedure have caused few side effects in studies: mainly redness, mild swelling and dryness, mostly from the microneedling or laser itself. Rarely, irritation or an allergic-type reaction can occur, and, as with any procedure that opens the skin, infection is possible.
We reduce these risks with sterile technique and single-use needles, products from reputable manufacturers, careful laser and microneedling settings for Indian skin, and clear aftercare.
